“Derby” clash launches new cricket season

THE new cricket season gets under way tomorrow (Saturday) – with a “derby” clash between Grappenhall and Warrington at Broad Lane.
Grappers were relegated from the Cheshire County League’s Premier Division in September after a disastrous season – while Warrington were promoted after topping division one.
So the near neighbours will be playing each other in a league game for the first time for several years.
The Broad Lane ground has undergone major improvements since last season, with a completely new outfield laid.
Grappenhall have Indian all-rounder  Ryan Ninan as their overseas players – a spin bowler and attractive batsman.
He has extensive experience, having played in Australia and in the Indian Premier League.
Adam Roylance will skipper the 1st XI – hoping to be able to lead Grappers straight back up the Premier Division.
Warrington will be looking to establish themselves in division one after a superb season in division two last year.
In the Cheshire Cricket League, Lymm Oughtrington Park, newly promoted to division one, will open their season with a visit from Poynton while Appleton, promoted to division three from the Cheshire Alliance, will travel to Wilmslow Wayfarers.  Stretton entertain Cheshire County Officers.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury will take on Saughall at Hurst Lane while Rylands will play Old Parkonians.
