A FORMER Miss Cheshire from Warrington is preparing to “run away” with the circus – touring the country in a traditional showman’s caravan.
Catriona Cameron – at one time a Sunday School teacher at Daresbury – is shortly to join Gifford’s Circus at their base in Stroud, Gloucestershire, for rehearsals ahead of their “Painted Wagon” summer tour.
The former beauty queen as previously worked at a theme park but will now swap the catwalk for the circus ring.
She said: “One of my earliest memories as a little girl is making my parents hold either end of a curtain pole, whilst I dressed up in my favourite polka dot swimsuit and performed a ‘daring tight-rope
walk’!  I even made my mother do the ringmaster’s commentary whilst my father sang the traditional circus theme!
“My parents realised then that they should probably send me to dance
classes, and I remember hoping that one day I’d perform in a real circus!”
Catriona studied at the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and has performed professionally as a dancer and actress across the world.
But she only began learning specific circus skills a year ago.
She was soon hooked and has studied Trapeze, Aerial Hoop, Clowning, Gymnastics and Acro-balance.
saying…
Catriona added: “I am really excited about life on tour. We will live in beautifully restored 1930’s caravans and everything is traditional, just like village green circus used to be. I’ve toured a lot with theatre
companies before, but never for as long. I’ll be away for six months and I’ve literally no idea what to pack!”
