New nursery school building approved

PLANS have been approved for a new nursery learning building at St Philip’s CE Primary School, Westbrook.
Members of Warrington’s development management committee gave the proposals the go-ahead after hearing the scheme replaced an early project which had already been granted approval and would not result in any increase in staff or pupils.
The new, flat-roofed building will be finished with vertical cedar cladding and will provide an entrance lobby, classroom, WCs, a small kitchen and a storage area.
It will be set within an area which included a hard surfaced play area and a grassed area and will be used by the pre-school unit, which currently has 19 children and four staff and the Link Club, which cares for children before the school opens in the morning and after it closes in the evening. This has 36 children and five staff.
Both the pre-school and the Link Club currently use the main school building, which is being re-modelled and enlarged under proposals approved last year.
A number of trees on the site will have to be removed, but planners say there is room within the school grounds for replacement trees to be planted.
