Police campaign to drive down road deaths

DRIVERS in Warrington and across the rest of Cheshire are being targeted in an operation to raise awareness of road safety.
“Operation Fatal 4” is a police campaign designed to reinforce the rules of the road – by tackling the four main issues causing death or injury.
Throughout April police will be targeting drink/drug driving, excessive speed, using technology whilst driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
Officers will be carrying out checks on roads across the county monitoring the speed of drivers and checking that motorists are adhering to the law by not using their mobile phone or sat nav while driving, not driving without a seat belt and not drinking or using drugs and driving.
Anyone suspected of being involved in those offences will be stopped and dealt with accordingly.
The operation, which involves officers from the local policing units as well as specialist road policing officers, also aims to educate drivers about the potential consequences of their actions on the roads.
Sergeant Anthony Gallagher said: “The rules of the road are there for a reason and we want to get the message across that we will not tolerate drivers who choose to ignore those rules. We want to make motorists more aware of how their driving impacts on other road users.
“We also want to educate motorists about the risks and dangers associated with these four key factors. Operations such as this help to hit home important safety messages with the ultimate aim of reducing the number of collisions on roads in Cheshire.”
