THE leader of Warrington Borough Council has lodged a strongly-worded objection to a plan to build two shops on a pub car park in his ward.
Cllr Terry O’Neill says the proposals for the car park of the Chapel House pub at Burtonwood amount to one of the most contrived planning applications he has ever seen and would impact dramatically on nearby residents.
He said: “I want to put on public record my strong objection to this development. This is the fourth application for this site, all have been refused and the applicant has also lost on appeal.
“As before, they are trying to shoe-horn two shops on to a pub car park, with the pub remaining open.
“This is opposite one of the busiest junctions on the only extremely busy main road running through the village, opposite a local primary school which has its own parking problems at dropping off and picking up times.”
Cllr O’Neill says there are also old folks homes nearby and a bus stop right opposite the busy junction.

“Entering and leaving this site is extremely dangerous in highway safety terms.”
The plan is due to come before the council’s development management committee on Wednesday.
The council has received 29 letters about the application – 17 in support and 12 against.
Supporters of the scheme say they would welcome additional retail units which would reduce the need to use cars or public transport.
Planning officers recommend the scheme be refused because of insufficient information to demonstrate it would not cause harm to highway safety.
