INFORMATION displays at Warrington’s bus stops are to be improved and updated
The borough council is working on a replacement for the current real time passenger information system.
David Boyer, assistant director of transport and environment, said: “The old system was expensive to maintain and very unreliable. The new system uses new technologies and is far more reliable.
“It is also less costly to maintain. It will consist of 50 fixed displays, located at the most used bus stops and will show actual departure times and countdowns to bus arrivals on the majority of bus services.
“It will be a far better information system for bus users in Warrington.”
As well as the 50 fixed sites the new system will enable scheduled and actual bus times to be obtained via any internet enabled device (PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone) for any one of the 1,400-plus bus stops across the borough.
The council has commissioned the removal of those screens which are showing inaccurate or no information. This work is ongoing at present and will be completed within the next few weeks.
The new system is presently undergoing robust testing and will be launched to the public later in the spring.
