Wolves pay tribute to Viola Beach

WARRINGTON Wolves will pay a unique tribute to tragic band Viola Beach tonight prior to their match against Wakefield  with the teams coming out to the bands hit single Swings & Waterslides, a special light show and a minutes applause.

But a dream by family and friends to get the single to number one in the official UK singles chart has not been achieved, with the song slipping down the charts to number 49 tonight (Friday) less than two weeks after they tragically died in a car crash in Sweden.

The single charted at number 11 last week.

Band members Tomas Lowe, Kris Leonard, River Reeves and Jack Dakin died along with manager Craig Tarry during the early hours of Saturday February 13, shortly after appearing at a music festival in Stockholm.

They were all killed when their car plunged more than 80ft from a highway bridge into a canal.

Mystery still surrounds the cause of the crash as intial reports have shown no trace of drink or drugs in the body of manager Craig, who was believed to have been driving.

Claims have been made about faulty warning lights not working properly at the bridge where the accident took place – but these were dismissed by Swedish authorities. Crucially CCTV footage which could have shown the incident was not saved and auto deleted 24 hours after the accident.

Heart broken family and fans have since been campaigning to get their single Swings & Waterslides to number one in the official singles chart – which was been backed by various celebrity bands and pop stars. The single did make number one in the iTune charts last week.

It has been agreed that funds raised from the sale of the single will go to the families.
