JAKE Remmer, aged 10, from Culcheth is the new Cheshire Schools Under 11 Table Tennis Champion.
The Twiss Green Primary School pupil, who started playing table tennis at Warrington Table Tennis Club when he was eight, defeated Tom Naylor from Farnworth CE Primary School 3-1 in the final at Halton Stadium.
Jake played for Warrington in the National Cadet League at just nine years, one of the youngest players to compete for the club.
In the semi-finals, Jake played Warrington TTC team mate Alain Barthelemy and with both players hitting top form the match was too close to call.
But Jake came through to win a hard fought contest.
He will now represent Cheshire at the National Championships in Wolverhampton on April 23.
Warrington Table Tennis Club head coach George Lennon and club ambassador/coach Sue Harper, watched the tournament.
They said: “Jake is a great example for other young players of what is possible through hard work and dedication. His infectious approach to training and competition brings out the best in him and his team mates. We are delighted that Jake’s efforts have been rewarded with his first tournament success.
“It has been a great day for Warrington TTC. Jake was one of three winners for the club as we also had James Courtney winning the under 13’s and Callum Tizard winning the under 16’s age groups”.
Warrington Table Tennis Club train every Monday from 7-9pm at Lowton High School. Further information is available on their website: www.warringtontabletennisclub.co.uk
