Hit musical ‘Oliver!’ on stage in Kingsley

LIONEL Bart’s hit musical Oliver! bursts into life on stage at Kingsley Community Centre this week (Wednesday 27th – Saturday 30th January).

The Kingsley Players will performing the much-loved show for five performances including a Saturday matinee.

The film won six Academy Awards, including Best Score, and the show is sure to have you humming along to old favourites like ‘Food Glorious Food’ and ‘Consider Yourself’.

A talented cast of 52 adults and children will tell Charles Dickens’ popular tale of the little orphan Oliver (Matthew Betteridge) who runs away from Mr Bumble (Colin Smith) and the workhouse to start a new life picking pockets for the kindly old rascal Fagin (Neil Silcock).

Despite the evil intervention of baddy Bill Sykes (Phil Murray), he wins over the affections of the Artful Dodger (Catrin Jones), Nancy (Lorna McAvoy) and Bet (Shara Blanchard). But can they help him escape from a life of crime?

Director Lynn Pegler said: “Oliver is one of my favourite musicals. It has everything – a gripping story, amazing characters and some of the best songs in musical theatre. It is a classic in every sense of the word.

“I am very lucky to be working with a fabulous cast who are bringing Victorian London to life. We promise you a very special production this January as the Kingsley Players embark on the group’s 40th anniversary season.”
