IT will be a sad start to the New Year for family and friends of Helsby High School Sixth former Alexandra Tattersall who died following a road accident the week before Christmas as they prepare to attend her funeral on Monday (January 4).
Helsby Sixth form will be closed on Monday to allow friends to attend the funeral of the 16-year-old who passed away at the Walton Centre hospital on Friday, December 18 after being
fatally injured while a passenger in a blue Volkswagen Polo that was involved in a collision with a red Nissan Micra on Manley Road, near Helsby.
A statement issued on the Helsby High School website announced that Alex’s funeral will be held at 2pm on Monday at St John’s Church in Alvanley.
Her tragic death has led to an outpouring of grief at Helsby High where Alex was described by headteacher John Dowler as a “model student” who was an ‘exceptional and inspirational’ young
person and ‘a much loved and valued member’ of the school.
Mr Dowler posted on the school website: “We have been asked by the family to say that, given the wonderful number of bouquets presented on the day of condolence, only close family flowers
are requested for the funeral. If anyone wishes to make a donation, the family request that they give to the Walton Centre Charity. Donations will support the Walton Centre Neurosurgery
trauma unit that cared for Alex.”
More than £1,000 has already been raised.
School will be open for all other year groups but non sixth form students wishing to attend need to get their parents/carers to seek permission beforehand.
