WASTE materials from an illegal cannabis factory was dumped in a lane – only days after volunteers had cleared up the area.

Members of the Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds removed a full skip of rubbish from Silver Lane Risley but within days more rubbish arrived, comprising waste from the cannabis factory.

A number of items were seized by police and Friends’ chairman Nigel Balding liaised with Warrington Borough Council and the police in an attempt to catch those responsible.

Mr Balding said: “We left the lane looking much better, but still with some work to do. Unfortunately, within days more rubbish arrived.

“Anyone seeking flying tipping should report it as soon as possible. With fines up to £95,000 for individuals, this is treated as a serious offence.

The Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds are to carry out a day of woodland management on Saturday, October 17, focusing on the area around the main pond, cutting back the willow that grows in the area and checking paths are clear.

Work will start at 10am at the car park on Gorse Covert Road. Hand tools will be provided.
Gorse Covert Mounds is a Site of Importance to Nature Conservation (SINC) at Birchwood, owned and managed by the Woodland Trust and with an active Friends group.
