“Beatle house” plan is thrown out

A PLAN to build a new house in the grounds of an existing property once occupied by the parents of Beatle George Harrison has been thrown out by Warrington planners.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee decided the proposal put forward by David Mantle in the grounds of Sevenoaks, Old Pewterspear Lane, Appleton, was too large for the site.
Almost two years ago, planners approved an outline application for the house, but planners were told the new, detailed scheme, was almost one third larger.
Six nearby residents had objected to the plan, complaining of loss of privacy, overlooking, overshadowing, draining issues, etc and Appleton Parish Council were concerned that the proposed access to the site was close to a children’s playground and on a bend.
The plan was for a mainly two-storey dwelling with four bedrooms, two en-suites, two dressing rooms, , living and dining rooms and acess from Hatfield Gardens.
In the 1960s, Sevenoaks was bought by George Harrison for his parents to enable them to escape from the “Beatlemania” which was sweeping the country and leading to hundreds of fans descending on their home in Liverpool.
