WARRINGTON’S prolific try scoring winger Joel Monaghan looks set to stay in Super League after playing his last game for the Wolves at St Helens on Thursday, kick off 8pm.
As Warrington Wolves round off their 2015 campaign Head of Coaching Tony Smith admitted saying farewell to Skipper Joel Monaghan, was one of the toughest decisions he has had to make.
It was “purely a business decision and one of the toughest I have had to make,” said Smith ahead of the match which will see Monaghan pull on the primrose and blue for the final time.
But Monaghan says he plans to stay in Super League based in England and has a couple of options to consider once he has played his last game for the Wolves.
He says being club captain has been a great honour and the highlight of his career was winning the Challenge Cup in 2012 alongside his brother Michael, being watched by their parents – his first and only major trophy success in a career spanning 16 years.
Video interviews with Joel and Tony Smith to follow later.
Meanwhile the Wolves may go into the game out of play-off contention, while Saints are very much still in the mix, but Warrington will be keen to turn the tables and end the season on a positive note with Saints having got the better of them on each of the three occasions so far this year.

144 tries in 144 games – can’t see that scoring rate being matched for a long time!
Hard to believe such a nice guy and top club man arrived in such controversial circumstances at the time.
