Warrington promoted – and could still be champions!

WARRINGTON have won promotion to the Vivio Cheshire County League’s first division – and have a remote chance of going up as champions depending on the last match of the season next Saturday.
They ensured promotion with a crushing defeat of third placed Mobberley – and ironically now depend on Mobberley if they are to become champions.
Mobberley travel to top-of-the-table Bollington and if the village club could win and ensure Bollington got less than 10 points while Warrington managed to take maximum points from their game with Northwich, then Warrington could go top – a position they held for most of the summer.
Whatever happens, Warrington will be playing in the first division next season which means a resumption of the “derby” games with Grappenhall – already relegated from the premier division.
Travelling to Mobberley, Warrington batted first and hit 222-7, with Adam Green top scoring with 82 and Nathan Green hitting 36 not out.
Mobberley were bowled out for 91, Ashley Scholes taking 3-16 and Brad McIntosh 3-2.
Grappenhall went down narrowly in a close-fought encounter at Neston, who themselves were looking like relegation candidates until a couple of weeks back.
Batting first, a below-full strength Grappers were all out for a modest 163, Saqib Mahmood top scoring with 32, Iain Wright hitting 31 and Will Sharp 28.
The home side were struggling at 47-6 but staged a late revival to snatch victory on 165-9. Sam Guest took 4-41.
In the TACS Partnership Cheshire League,  Lymm Oughtrington Park, crowned champions despite losing the previous week, lost again.
Visitors Kingsley batted first and were all out for 162 – a distinctly “gettable” target. But Lymm were tumbled out for an embarrassing 37.
The Cheshire Alliance division one title race goes on to the last match of the season with at least one and possibly two local clubs set to be promoted to the Cheshire League.
Leaders Stretton beat Holmes Chapel by 10 wickets but second placed Appleton kept in touch with victory over Glazebury in a low-scoring game at Hurst Lane.
Appleton’s all-out total of 117 owed much to Richard Clarke, who top—scored with 38. Christopher Ayre took 4-46 for Glazebury.
Glazebury were dismissed for 99, despite a battling 35 from opener Wayne Hargreaves. Sachin Gavaskar took 4-15.
If Appleton get maximum points from their final game and Stretton get less than 10, Appleton would go top and become champions.
But if Appleton fail to win they could still be overtaken by third placed Wistaston Village and would not be promoted.
Away from 1st XI cricket, Grappenhall 2nd defeated champions-elect Tattenhall by seven wickets.
The home side batted first an d posted 182-3 on a good track.  Ollie Turpin, 57 and Jamie Bye,82 shared in a century opening stand for Grappers who reached their target for the loss of three wickets.

Urmston scored fairly freely in reply but wickets fell regularly and they finished 208 all out. Wickets were shared around with Seed and Clissold taking three each.
