Joint fight against environmental crime

MORE than 50 Police Community Support Officers will be joining the fight against environmental crime in Warrington – helping to keep local streets safe and clean.
The PCSOs have received training from the borough council’s environmental crime team and have been issued with fixed penalty books to issue notices for breaches of the dog control orders covering Orford Park, and littering and dog fouling across the borough.
PCSO Sigourney Ridsdale was singled out for praise by both the police and the council.
She issued eight fixed penalty notices in the Orford Park Area for breaches of the dog control order covering the park, when people had failed to keep their dog on a lead.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, executive member for environment and public protection, said: “This achievement is a perfect example of how the council and the police can work effectively together to keep our streets safe and clean.
“Tough action needs to be taken against the irresponsible people who continually blight their own area. We would urge local residents to join in the fight by reporting those responsible.
“PCSO Ridsdale has done an especially excellent job of putting the training from the council into practice and we will continue to work together to enforce the law and keep Warrington a place for us all to be proud of.”
