BOWLERS in Warrington are set to benefit from a brand new facility with two new all-weather state-of-the-art, championship standard artificial greens – part of a £1 million-plus investment in Bank Park.
Warrington Borough Council celebrated the official opening of the brand new Bank Park Pavilion by the Mayor, Cllr Geoff Settle, with a specially organised Crown Green bowling match and celebration.
The annual civic bowling  event now returns to its original location in the park.
Crown green bowlers from the borough council team and members of the Warrington and District Senior Bowls Association were invited to take part in the informal match as part of the celebration.
The completion and opening of the new bowls pavilion is part of the regeneration of Warrington’s Bank Park after an investment of more than £1 million to replace the old pavilion and provide two floodlit, all weather greens with perimeter fencing and new lighting around the Park. It also provides a changing area for bowlers, a café space and a new terrace area.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, said: “This is yet another world class sporting facility for the residents of Warrington. The refurbishment of Bank Park is part of an ambitious programme launched by the council to improve and regenerate the town’s parks and open spaces.
“The annual bowling event has been a great success and was a wonderful way to mark the official opening of this brand new facility which is another step forward towards improving our wonderful Bank Park and restoring its vitality.”

  1. Well done Warrington, but surely with the tradition of Crown Green Bowling in the town a real turf green should have been laid. Is maintenance so expensive these days or has the skill been lost. My Dad (who built more than one crown green) would not have been very impressed…..
