Gardens to open for caring charities

MANY of the most beautiful gardens in Cheshire will be open to the public this summer as part of the National Gardens Scheme – including some near Frodsham.
This offers an opportunity for people to visit showpiece gardens – and also raises money for charity.
The gardens range in size from the big publicly owned gardens, such as Tatton Park, Dunham Massey Hall and Norton Priory Gardens, to privately owned gardens, often of modest size.
Among local gardens to open are:
Manley Knoll, Manley Road, Manley on Sunday June 21 from 12 noon to 5pm:
This six acre gardens was created in the early 1900s and is divided into different “rooms” encompassing parterres, clipped yew hedging and ornamental ponds.
Banks of rhododendron and azaleas frame a far-reaching view of the Cheshire Plain. There is also a magical quarry/folly garden with a waterfall. Admission: £3.50, children free. Home-made teas.
Bowmere Cottage, Bowmere Road, Tarporley, on Sunday, June 21 from 1.30pm to 5.30pm: A mature 1-acre country style garden around a Grade ll listed house (not open). Mixed shrub and herbaceous borders, pergolas, two plant filled courtyard gardens and small kitchen garden. Shrub and rambling roses, clematis, hardy geraniums and a wide and colourful range of plants make this a very traditional English garden. Cobbled drive and courtyard. Gravel paths. Admission: £4, children free. Home-made teas.
Clemley House, Duddon Common, Tarporley, Sunday June 28, 12 noon until 5pm: A two  acre organic, wildlife friendly, gold award winning cottage garden. Features orchard, wildlife ponds, wildflower meadow, fruit and veg areas, badger sett, rose pergola, gazebo, summer house, barn owl and many other nest boxes, gravel and shade gardens, shepherd’s hut and poly tunnel. Year round interest.  Admission: £4, children free. Home-made teas. Home grown organic fruits used in jams & cakes.
