Arsonists strike four times in a night

FIRE chiefs are appealing for help from the public after arsonists struck four times in one night at Warrington.
Residents are being urged to be vigilant after firefighters had to deal with the incidents.
Firefighters were first called out to the junction of Knutsford Road and Kingsway South.  Rubbish had been set on fire with the blaze spreading to a nearby fence.
The next call was to a fire involving a wheelie bin which had been set alight in Hulme Street, and the third came just over half an hour later to another wheelie bin fire in Elaine Street.
The final call was at almost 2am, to a report of three large wheelie bins deliberately set on fire in Greenings Court.  They were in a compound and a hose reel jet was used to put out the fire.
Hose reel jets were used to tackle all the fires.
Station manager at Warrington Fire Station, Paul Jackson, said: “We work very closely with Warrington Police and other partner agencies to tackle this ongoing issue of deliberate fires and this will continue, but we also need residents to be aware and help us where they can.
“The crime of arson is extremely dangerous.  Fire spreads quickly so what may seem like a small fire can easily become out of control. Not only do these fires put the lives of firefighters at risk, they also cause considerable danger to the public because while fire engines are at scenes of arson they are not available to respond to real emergencies.”
“Anyone with any information or who sees fires being deliberately started is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101. Information can also be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
