Political poster sparks new war of words

THE war of words between Labour supporters at Warrington and rebel councillor Kevin Bennett goes on.
Cllr Bennett, who is standing as Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) candidate in the Warrington South Parliamentary constituency has drawn attention to an “illegal” party political poster in the window of the Community House on St Katharine’s Way, Howley.
He has written to Returning Officer Professor Steven Broomhead demanding to know who gave a “Vote Labour” poster to the Community House and asked for it to be displayed.
In his letter he said: “Displaying party political posters on council premises is against the law.
“Therefore I demand to know who from the Labour Party gave this poster to the Community House and asked them to put it up?
“Also why have council officers allowed it to be displayed when it is against the rules of the Electoral Commission?”
Cllr Bennett says he has been told unofficially who was responsible for displaying the poster and intends reporting the person to the Electoral Commission for investigation.
He added: “I am sure other political parties standing in the Fairfield and Howley ward will also find this disgraceful.”
In a reply to Cllr Bennett, Professor Broomhead pointed out that the Community House is owned by Golden Gates Housing, not the council.
He said:” I have brought it to the attention of the managing director of Golden Gates.
“No public building should display any political party posters.  I cannot comment as to who placed the poster within the Community Home building, as by definition it is a busy building.”

  1. Has Cllr Bennett not got anything more constructive that he could be doing with his time ? I’m finding it very tiresome constantly reading about his his moans, gripes and finger pointing all the time in the local press about what others have done, not done or said. Considering the councilor is standing for Warrington South in the general election maybe he’d do better diverting his time and energy into delivering some election material or speaking to residents saying what HE will do for Warrington South if he gets elected as with only days to go we’ve not had a thing from him or his new party yet. Saying that we’ve hardly had anything from any party or hopeful. Maybe or votes are not important round here.
