Jazzing it up for the elderly

THE annual concert by the Chicago Teddy Bears Society Jazz Band in aid of charity group Contact the Elderly takes place at Grappenhall Community Centre on Friday, February 14.
Always a sell-out, the evening includes a two course supper and starts at 8pm.
Contact the Elderly is the only national charity dedicated solely to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people.
The Lymm and Thelwall branch organises monthly afternoon tea parties for the Over 75s and special events such as a canal boat trip, an Easter tea at Statham Lodge Hotel, Lymm and a Christmas dinner at the Lymm Hotel. All the events are run by volunteers.
Branch chairman Colin Melrose said: “Our tea parties are a real lifeline of friendship for our older members, who have little regular contact with family or friends. They bring together people of all ages, develop fulfilling friendships, and give everyone involved something to look forward to each month.”
Anyone interested in attending the concert or who would like more information about the charity should contact Mr Melrose on 01925 756742.
