WARRINGTON is one of the country’s luckiest places to live when it comes to winning a major National Lottery prize.
New statistics, revealed by the National Lottery rank the Warrington (WA) postcode as the sixth luckiest place in the UK.
The research ranks the number of big National Lottery winners of £50,000 and above, won per head of population in every postcode area across the country.
Warrington ranks sixth since the National Lottery began in 1994. A total of 343 people in the borough have won a major prize of at least £50,000 – including 34 new millionaires.
A National Lottery spokesperson said: “Congratulations to the people of Warrington – they live in one of the luckiest postcodes in the UK.
“Lottery luck can live anywhere and it could be you celebrating if you have a ticket for the next big National Lottery draw.”
Jane Pidgeon, from Warrington, was part of the Sankey Forum syndicate who each won £210,000 in October 2012. The group of 10 scooped a EuroMillions jackpot of £4.2 million. The syndicate still plays the Lottery every week.
Jane said: “This amount of money is just unreal and has really changed all of our lives. Winning the lottery is something which you think can never happen to you – it is something which only ever happens to other people.
“But these figures show just how realistic it is to win a prize – particularly a big one. I would encourage everyone to buy a lottery ticket – you don’t know what can happen unless you play.”
