FORMER Warrington Collegiate student Ashley Terron won gold at the Global Skills Challenge in Australia.
Ashley, 20, is no stranger to these competitions, having first won the Skillbuild competition at the age of 16, and plans to challenge for gold at the Skills Olympics in Leipzig in July.
He said: “I’m over the moon. The competition was the fiercest I’ve ever faced so I’m delighted to win gold. I’ll now be training hard to make sure I win gold at the WorldSkills International Competition in Leipzig.
Ashley combines his competition exploits by studying Construction and Property Management at the University of Salford, and working for family firm Peter Terron Brickwork Contracting Limited.
Paul Gould, Curriculum Manager for Construction and the Built Environment at Warrington Collegiate, said: “From the start I knew that Ashley would do well. He was an exceptional student, talented and totally focused on being the best. I have high hopes of his achieving gold at Leipzig in the summer.”
Ashley was chosen to represent the UK at the Skills Olympics after finishing second in an International Bricklaying Competition in Denmark in January.
