Giant victory for Wolves

WARRINGTON Wolves closed the gap on second placed Huddersfield Giants to just one point with a fine 12-34 victory.
The Giants who were on a run of five games unbeaten, started the brightest and took the lead after a great 40-20 from Danny Brough set up good field possession and from the scrum the Wolves defence was stretched allowing McGilvary in at the corner. Brough added the extra to make it 6-0.
But Warrington hit back on taking advantage of a Giants knock on in their own 20 with Mickey Higham diving over from dummy half to score on seven minutes. Hodgson converted to level the scores.
A great break by Grix helped set up Warrington’s next score on 23 minutes as Trent Waterhouse powered over. Hodgson was wide with the conversion.
Two quick penalties put Warrington back on the front foot as Waterhouse went over for his second try after good work by Ratchford and Hodgson. Hodgson added the extras making it 6-16.
Another penalty for Warrington kept the Giants on the back foot as Ratchford scored a great try on 28 minutes as he chipped through and regathered to score. Hodgson was again on target to put the Wolves in control at 6-22.
Some great defending from the Wolves kept Huddersfield out and Brough’s frustrations eventually saw him sin binned just before the break. Hodgson’s penalty attempt went wide.
Some great work by Hodgson saw the full-back in at the corner on 51 minutes and he then converted from the touchline to rub the salt in the wound sof his former employers making it 6-28.
But three minutes later the Giants hit back as Chris Riley dropped the ball allowing Leeming in for an easy try which Brough converted to make it 12-28.
Grix was next to go close for Warrington but dropped the ball with the line at his mercy but Atkins made no mistake on 67 minutes as he showed great strength to go over. Hodgson was again on target to make it 12-34 and game over.
