AROUND a quarter of people in Warrington have a long term health conditions – and NHS chiefs are urging them not to leave it too late to order and collect repeat prescriptions over the Easter bank holiday period.
Many GP practices will have limited opening hours over the bank holiday weekend, which means some people, particularly those with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, lung and heart disease, may struggle if they run out of their medication.
Local GP and chairman of Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group Dr Andy Davies said: “Around a quarter of people in Warrington have a long term health condition. We want to make sure that people with these illnesses have a good Easter and are able to enjoy the long bank holiday weekend. The last thing we want is for people to run out of their medication, become poorly and have to spend part of their holiday in hospital.
“A simple call to your GP surgery or a visit to your high street pharmacy now could mean one less thing to think about over the bank holiday. Your pharmacist can also provide useful advice about how to deal with common complaints, such as coughs, colds, sore throats and flu.”
Warrington CCG is backing the Choose Well campaign, which reinforces the message that A&E and 999 services are for life-threatening and serious conditions only. High street pharmacy
IES can help deal with minor illnesses and complaints such as coughs, colds, flu, stomach upsets, aches and sprains.
