Bishop backs woodland plan

A PLAN to create more woodland in and around Warrington has been welcomed by the Bishop of Liverpool The Rt. Rev. James Jones.
The updated Mersey Forest Plan aims to plant millions more trees in Merseyside and North Cheshire, with long-term aspirations in Warrington to plant urban trees, copses, and larger woodlands and improve their management.
The Bishop said: “Our forests are nature’s playground for the adventurous, pleasure for the curious, hospital for the stressed, cathedral for the spiritual, and livelihood for the entrepreneur.”
He urged Warrington people to have their say on plans.
The Mersey Forest Partnership, which includes representatives from Warrington Borough Council, has planted nine million trees since 1991.
The draft plan can be found at www.merseyforest.org.uk/plan where residents can see proposals for their local area on an interactive map and put their views before the end of April. Printed copies are available in libraries and further details are available by calling 01925 816217.
