Volunteers clean up woodland

THE Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds tackled most areas of the Woodland Trust site at Birchwood, Warrington with their annual big tidy up.
But they concentrated on some of the residual rubbish near the “Panther Path” at the top of the bank behide Hamsterley Close, clearing up cans, bottles, crisk packets, an abandoned bike and a supermarket trolley.
Group chairman Nigel Balding thanks local PCSOs Alison Davies and Alison Shacklock and their Junior PCSOs, local residents, the Big Tidy Up and Birchwood Town Council for picking up the rubbish.
Another “Big Tidy Up” was held in the small woods of Oakwood, also a Woodland Trust site. The litter included more supermarket trolleys, bits of a bed, traffic cones.
Mr Balding said it was disappointing there was so much clearly visible rubbish close to Birchwood High School and asked all organisations involved in the area to do their bit to improve the situation
