Wolves taste first defeat

WARRINGTON Wolves missed out on the chance of going top of the table as they suffered their first defeat on the season 26-12 at Hull KR following a second half collapse.
The Wolves, who were missing a number of key players including Skipper Adrian Morley, Lee Briers, Joel Monaghan and Ben Harrison, were leading 12-6 at the break as Hull KR scored 20 unanswered points in the second period.
Rovers took the lead early on through David Hodsgon but the Wolves hit back with two tries in nine minutes from Stefan Ratchford and Ryan Atkins, both converted by Brett Hodgson to lead at the interval.
But Warrington’s 12-6 half-time was cut back by Cory Paterson’s try and Michael Dobson’s penalty nudged Hull KR ahead.
Hodgson and Alex Brown ran in late tries as Dobson took his tally to 10 points to seal an impressive win.
Warrington could have gone top of the table as previously unbeaten Huddersfield were beaten at home by Bradford.
Rover’s first try was well worked by debutant Travis Burns and Michael Dobson as they created an overlap on the left for Hodgson to go over, although Dobson missed the conversion.
Dobson was then more accurate with a 18-metre penalty to put the hosts 6-0 ahead, but Warrington hit back as poor defence enabled Ratchford to run in a try, while Ratchford’s cross-kick was caught by Atkins – who out-jumped Brown –
for Warrington’s second try.
Hull KR piled on the pressure early in the second half and they got the try their dominance deserved as Dobson, who also added the conversion off the post, produced a clever pass to send Paterson free to go over on the left edge.
Dobson added a penalty and in the closing stages Hodgson broke clear and went over under the posts for his second try.
Brown’s try on his debut in the right-hand corner and Dobson’s fifth successful kick completed the scoring.
