WARRINGTON Town Football Club is celebrating after a record-breaking half-term sports camp organised by the club’s community development officer James Standing.
During half-term break, a record-breaking 60 children per day took part in a range of sporting activities including football, baseball, basketball, cricket and handball, all of which were held at the club’s Cantilever Park ground.
Community development officer James, who is supported by United Utilities, oversaw the four days of fun alongside a number of other coaches including community coach volunteer Stuart Waldron.
The camp is the first of nine to be held throughout 2013 providing a healthy and friendly sporting environment for children as young as 4 years of age to get involved in physical activity.
James said: “This was our most successful camp yet and with the amount of positive feedback we have received, it looks like we are about to get bigger in April! The kids were great throughout the whole week. We had a few interclub competitions with a number of players from Warrington Town, Appleton Boys, Woolston Rover and Eagle in attendance along with a few from other sports clubs across the town.”
On the final day participants were awarded certificates, a water bottle and a junior season ticket. The final day also saw a guest appearance from Gully Mouse from Gulliver’s World, who was on hand to give out awards to competition winners and the prestigious, sportsmanship award.
James added: “It was great to have Gully down as he spent the whole day with the kids and it all adds to the experience and atmosphere.”
The next half term camp takes place in just five weeks time as local primary schools take a break for Easter.
Week one will run from Tuesday 2nd April to Friday 5th April with Week two running from Monday 8th April to Friday 12th April with children having the second Wednesday (10th) off. Prices are set at just £30 for the full 4 days or £9 per day with sessions taking place on the artificial 3G pitches based at their Cantilever Park home.
