WARRINGTON’S biggest landlord and the town’s premier football club have teamed up to launch an innovative community partnership.
The partnership will see Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) and Warrington Town FC work together over the next 18 months to to deliver a range of activities for adults and young people aimed at promoting health and physical activity.

GGHT will become a key sponsor of the football club and tenants and their families will receive a number of benefits, including discounted admission to all Warrington Town FC home games and reductions in the cost of places on the club’s multi sport camps.
A free taster session for the camps will also be provided to the Trust’s tenants during the April half-term holidays.
The launch event was also used to mark the start of an exciting new competition called “Golden Goal”, which aims to find a new footballing superstar among the Trust’s 11,000 tenants and their families.
Open to all GGHT staff and tenants aged 16 or over, the competition will see one lucky winner getting the chance to join pre-season training with the first team in July and potentially become semi-professional with their home town club.
More details on a special trial day will be provided to the Trust’s tenants in the next few months.
GGHT chairman Roy Smith said: “It is great to have this opportunity to support Warrington Town FC. The club plays an important role in the community and is doing excellent work to help local people improve their lifestyles with sport. We believe that our partnership will bring many benefits to our tenants and their families and will play a key role in helping them to improve their quality of life.”
Warrington Town chairman Gary Skentelbery said: “We are delighted to welcome Golden Gates Housing Trust on board as one of our new community partners and look forward to working with them closely over the coming months.
“We hope to grow our fan base and hopefully unearth a star of the future.
“We see Golden Gates Housing Trust as the perfect partner to help develop our brand in the local community as we continue to work hard to move the club forward up the football pyramid – with the ultimate goal of delivering a football league team to the town, with all the added benefits for the wider community.”
