Horse rescued from frozen canal

FIRE and rescue crews were called to Oughtrington Lane, Lymm after reports that a horse had fallen into the frozen Bridgewater Canal.
The crews from Stockton Heath, supported by an animal rescue unit from Knutsford, calmed the animal using natural sedation and then used specialist equipment to remove it from the canal..
Once out of the water, the horse was handed over to its owner – none the worse for its experience.
In a separate incident, crews from Warrington and Birchwood were called to Warrington Road, Glazebury to deal with a transit van, well alight on a driveway.
Police controlled traffic while the blaze was extinguished.
