New stalking laws welcomed

THE new stalking laws have been welcomed by Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer.
Two new laws – part of a package of new government support to prevent domestric and sexual violence – have made stalking a specific criminal offence for the first time.
Mr Dwyer (pictured) said: “I am delighted to see that these new laws have been introduced, and will be available in the police officers’ tool kit in the fight against crime in Cheshire.
“Policing should always have the welfare of the victim at its heart and this is an often hidden crime which can seriously impact upon the quality of life of the victim”
The new laws – that carry a maximum prison sentence of five years – will provide extra protection for victims and help bring more stalkers to justice.
