A new Community Hub in Warrington has been officially opened by the town’s Mayor, Cllr Steve Wright.
Residents were treated to hotpot and homemade cakes and were given a chance to view the new facilities at St Werburg’s Community Hub in Latchford, Warrington.
The new Hub on Boswell Avenue off Irwell Road has a large community room, kitchen and two smaller meeting rooms with a further large meeting room available in the evening. The rooms are available for local community purposes and for hire.
Residents greeted the new Hub with enthusiasm and put forward their ideas on a range of activities which they would like to take place.
The refurbishing of the new community rooms was supported by the Council’s Community Asset Development fund.
A number of activities are planned for the Hub, including a regular coffee morning which will take place every Thursday from 10am to 12pm, alongside the Can Do Club for people looking for help and support to get back into work.
Welcoming the facility Cllr Maureen McLaughlin (Labour, Latchford West) said: “The launch day was really positive, and there seemed to be a community feel to the place almost straight away. Local people have been asking for a space where they can meet for some considerable time, and for many people St Werburgh’s is in an ideal location. I’m absolutely delighted that members of the Council’s Executive Board understood the need for this facility and were able to give it their full support. This Hub gives residents the opportunity to get together and support one another with a variety of activities, and a number of volunteers have already come forward to help get things up and running.”
