Warning over scam competitions

TRADING Standards officers at Warrington have been receiving complaints from residents who have received junk mail stating they have won a prize.
They have issued a warning to residents not to be fooled by the scam.
Cllr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection at Warrington Borough Council, said: “You cannot win money or a prize in a lottery if you have not entered it. You cannot be chosen at random if you do not have an entry.
“Many mass market scams will trick you into parting with money or providing your banking or personal details in the belief that you will win a cash prize. You do not have to pay a fee to claim a legitimate prize.”
