UNIVERSITY students from Warrington have launched a fundraising extravaganza for the BBC’s Children In Need – Pounds for Pudsey appeal.
Students at the Warrington Campus of Chester University have organised a string of events over the course of a week, ranging from celeb-studded parties to sports tournaments and talent shows.
The opening event took place in the Warrington Campus bar ClubTwenty10 last night, and featured a performance from talented video DJ Beat A Maxx- a highly acclaimed DJ who recently appeared on the final Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1
He mixes the art of turntablism with state-of-the-art video technology. He will be flying to America shortly after the performance to begin a 12-day tour.
Battle of the Halls follows on today, with the Hall Championship Olympics.
This event sees the campus’s nine halls of residence competing against each other in a series of school sports day type activities to win hall points, with the winners at the end of the year of events being crowned hall champions.
The rest of the week involves a line-up of sporting events including a FIFA Tournament, a ladies netball versus Warrington Wolves coaches netball match, and a 24-hour sponsored football match.
The week will be rounded off with a children’s themed student pyjama party on Friday, November 16, including face painting, raffle prizes and appearances from special guest star singer Lucie Evans.
Students’ Union vice president Roberta Micci, who has organised the week of events said: “I feel very strongly about charitable giving and as soon as I was elected vice-president at the end of the last academic year, it was the first thing I was organising.
“Children In Need is a fantastic cause and as VP of Chester Students’ Union in Warrington, I am in a great position to be organising some fundraising! We have some brilliant events planned over the seven days and I hope that students and members of the public will get involved to help raise as much money as possible.”
