New arts group launches

CULTURE Warrington – the new organisation charged with promoting the arts across the town – officially launches tomorrow (Saturday).
Based in the town centre’s vibrant Cultural Quarter, the new body embraces the Pyramid and Parr Hall and Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.
Now independent of the borough council, Culture Warrington aims to offer high quality activities and well as engaging events and classes.
It will develop more art opportunities for the people of Warrington and safeguard the arts for the future – and it also hopes to bridge the gap between the town’s less advantaged citizens and their neighbours by allowing them to share in the cultural life of the town.
Parr Hall and Pyramid provide a whole variety of entertainments including dance, drama, comedy, music, pantomime, and variety performances.
Modernised two years ago and with a 1,000-seat capacity, Parr Hall regularly attracts big names in the entertainment industry including recently The Stone Roses, Jimmy Carr and Peppa Pig.
The Museum and Art Gallery saw the addition of two new galleries last year. One tells the “Story of Warrington” and the other is a World Cultures gallery which celebrates diversity in the town.
There is also a gallery for contemporary arts and crafts where local artists can showcase their work. All events and exhibitions are free.
Tomorrow’s launch kicks off at 11am at The Pyramid, with the National Campaign for Drawing.
Up until 3pm there will be live art and music in the town centre and at 4pm, back at the Pyramid for drama. At 7.30pm there will be a range of activities at The Pyramid to celebrate the launch.
