Volunteers wanted for Youth Service

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help young people in Warrington deal with issues ranging from relationships and sexual health to learning new skills and education.
Caring, community-minded adults are sough by the council’s youth service. They will work alongside experienced youth workers delivering a programme of informal education and support.
A service spokesperson said: “Whether it’s through sports and activities or just playing a game of pool, with the support of youth workers, new volunteers will make lasting relationships with young people.
“They’ll be in a position to deliver informal education on the issues that affect them such as relationships, sexual health, substance misuse advice and signposting to support services.”
Volunteers will be based in the new youth café and Orford Youth Base, as well as in community settings.
There are opportunities seven days a week and volunteering can fit in around a volunteer’s daily routine. No experience is required as training and support will be offered in advance, and on an ongoing basis.
Cllr Colin Froggatt, (pictured) executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in building their understanding of youth and community work.
“It’s not just about playing pool and going on trips, but from experience we know that these are often the best ways to engage with young people and build trust before starting a more serious conversation, or getting involved in bigger community projects.”
