Special event for 20th anniversary of bombing

WORK has started on planning a special commemorative event to mark next year’s 20th anniversary of the IRA bombing of Warrington, which claimed the lives of three-year-old Johnathan Ball and 12-year-old Tim Parry.
The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation, based at Warrington Peace Centre and Warrington Borough Council, have started planning for the significant milestone for those who were affected at the time of the bombing, and for those who have since contributed to, or benefited from, the work the foundation has carried out.
The two boys died following the Bridge Street bombing while more than 50 other shoppers were injured.
The civic commemorative event is due to be held in Bridge Street on Saturday, March 16 next year from 11.30 am which will mark the start of a week of activities.
Planning is still in the early stages, however, and organisers want to make sure that those people who were directly affected on that day and as many people as possible are aware of
the anniversary event and have the opportunity to come together in reflection and remembrance.
In the months following the tragic day, a number of local school children contributed designs that form part of the River of Life memorial in Bridge Street.
Event organisers would like hear from those who contributed who can contact Rev Stephen Kingsnorth from the town centre ministry via [email protected]
