AN award-winning artist has created a series of paintings based on the historic works on show at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.
Iain Andrews has worked in collaboration with the writer Joanne Reardon Lloyd, to interpret the works and explore the stories that they tell. His paintings will be displayed alongside the historic works they represent in a new exhibition called Mythopoeia.
He said: “Stories need to be retold again and again by each new generation that receives them and, as they are retold, narratives inevitably put down roots and throw out branches in unexpected directions.
“This is a small collection of those roots and branches, a series of new paintings and modern folk tales that take their inspiration from, and collaborate with, the museum’s permanent collection of works of art in order to lead the audience off on new and unexpected paths.”
Mythopoeia opens on September 28 to mark the launch of the Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival 2012. The exhibition continues until January 12.
