Arts group works magic

A NEW community arts group has been working its magic across Warrington.
Members of the mental health community have come together to bring graffiti art to the town.
Their project, called Mindart, aims to challenge stigma surrounding mental health, promote artistic expression and improve the local environment.
The talented group recently completed their first piece of work which focused on a set of metal containers at the Harrison Centre in Dallam. The containers were transformed into a piece of artwork centred on words associated with mental health.
They want to promote graffiti art opportunities and projects for everyone across the town. Upcoming projects include transforming a portacabin at Whitecross Community Centre and linking up with a psychiatric unit in central Cuba.
The Mindart project is funded by a range of agencies including Warrington Borough Council, Stronger Together, 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Partnerships in Care.
Cllr Pat Wright, the borough council’s executive member for health, wellbeing and adult social care, said: “The purpose of the group is all about challenging people’s perceptions of mental health, and using art to get this across, but also to have fun and really bring something different to the community – it’s great to see the work exhibited in the town.”
More information about the project is available on 07756 285038.
