School needs extra classroom

PLANS for a mobile classroom at Lymm’s Cherry Tree Primary School do not mean it is to become a two-form entry school, nor that there will be any increase in pupils or staff, planning chiefs have been told.
The school is already over-subscribed with one class having to be taught in the library.
Two objections were received from nearby residents on the grounds that a two-form entry school would have increased number of pupils and staff and attract additional traffic.
They claimed the staff car park would already too small and that the development would be “the thin end of the wedge” leading to further extensions.
But the borough’s planning committee was told the extra classroom would be required for only five years. It would be used to accommodate classes currently being taught in the library,
Cllr Sheila Woodyatt said: “Educationally, it is not acceptable for the library to be out of use so there is a great need for the additional space. There will be no increase in traffic because the children involved are already in school.”
