DAVID Mowat, MP for Warrington South gave students a unique insight into the life of a Member of Parliament when he visited Priestley College.
Speaking to students studying Public Services about the role of an MP both locally and nationally, the European Parliament and House of Lords, Mr Mowat also related to his time on a Select Committee which is currently looking into the issue of Bank Regulation.
Following his presentation, Mr Mowat opened the floor to questions and spoke about cuts in public services and the removal of the Educational Maintenance Allowance.
Many of the students are keen to become serving members of the Police Force, Fire Brigade, Health Service or Armed Forces, on the back of both their academic and vocational studies at Priestley, and a presentation from their local MP was particularly useful.
Public Services Tutor Chris Seaton said: “It was really interesting and insightful for the students to listen to Mr Mowat’s presentation and we are grateful that he took time out of his busy schedule to attend and to take questions from our students on the burning issues of the day – they certainly didn’t hold back.”
