WARRINGTON’s new indoor long mat bowling league will launch next month.
Matches will be played at the Birchwood Leisure and Tennis Centre on two 32m X 4m mats laid over the tennis courts.
There will be an informal opening ceremony prior to the first match on Monday, October 10.
Matches will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, plus Friday evenings.
The initiative arises from a partnership between Leisure Warrington and the Warrington Indoor Long Mat Bowling Club.
Club spokesman John Kirkham said: “This facility will enable local bowlers to carry on playing throughout the winter months.
“We have had a lot of interest from local bowling clubs and it promises to be a very competitive league.”
In the past, bowlers in Warrington had to go out of town for indoor long mat bowling in the winter – many travelling to Leigh.
Further details are available from Mr Kirkham on 01925 764772.

Good story and I reckon I could end up having a go at that. Just one thing though, if there are going to be two mats, then why does the picture show five?
Because that is a picture of the Leigh Long Mat Indoor Bowling Club in action at the Leigh Sports Village.
