Pumping station to be re-built

A MAJOR waste water pumping station which serves a population of more than 124,000 people at Warrington is to be re-built.
Borough council planners have approved proposals by United Utilities to reconstruct the plant on land off Lilford Avenue, Bewsey.
The existing pumping station receives two large sewers and its replacement is required by OFWAT and the Environment Agency as part of United Utilities’ region-wide programme of refurbishment.
Proposals involve a secure fenced extension to the existing compound including a control building, transformer compounds, outfall structure and the installation of a below-ground pumping station. There will also be extensive landscaping.
The site is important for its sensitive ecology and wildlife habitats and United Utilities have agreed to contribute £35,000 towards the cost of providing compensatory maintenance and management of a Site of Importance for Nature Conservancy (SINC) elsewhere in the borough.
It will also do everything possible to restore the ecology/habitat value of the site itself – including minimising the loss of trees and hedgerows.

  1. There seems to have been something going on at this site for over 20 years!!! They have already rebuilt it once and seem to be constantly working on there….a replacement that doesn’t need so much work would be a bonus I guess!!
