Vocational results are also excellent. An astonishing 100 per cent of young people achieved a National Diploma or equivalent – equivalent to three A Levels – compared to 99.6 per cent last year. Of these 77.5 per cent achieved a merit or distinction.

Finally, 100 per cent also achieved a National Award or equivalent -equivalent to one A Level – with 72.6 per cent achieving a merit or distinction.
Cllr Colin Froggatt, the borough council’s executive member for children and young people, said: “I and everyone at the council are very pleased with the outstanding A Level and vocational results our young minds have achieved. Our interim results indicate that Warrington continues to be a borough where the very highest quality of education is provided and our students continue to set a shining example.
At Priestley College there was, for the seventh year in succession, an overall pass rate of 99 per cent.
There was a 100 per cent pass rate in 41 A Level subjects, with 18 per cent of grades awarded at either A* or A.
The college also had its highest ever number of entries, totalling more than 1,900 – a 29 per cent increase on last year.
Fifty students obtained at least three grade As at A-Level and nine students achieved an incredible three A* or more. There were also 341 A-Level grades awarded at either A* or A.
There was a 100 per cent pass rate in every BTEC National programme and 49 per cent of grades were awarded at Distinction Level, equivalent to an A at A-Level.
Meanwhile, 16 students were able to obtain a grade A* or A at A-Level alongside BTEC Distinction grades, which again highlighted the capacity for Priestley students to combine academic and vocational qualifications.
Principal Mike Southworth said: “From well before 8am this morning, the college campus was a hive of activity, as our excited students arrived to collect their results.
“Once again the achievements of our young people have been outstanding and the college is both proud and delighted to report a 99 per cent pass rate for the seventh year running. I now wish all our leavers the very best for future as they embark on their next step in life.”
