Pupils to learn about prison

PUPILS will be escorted “prisoner style” between workshops at a day in Warrington aimed at tackling potential criminal behaviour before it starts.
The Crime and Safety Awareness Day has been set up by the “Prison Me! No Way!” Trust. It aims to help young people develop an awareness of crime and its consequences.
Crime and anti-social behaviour are on the agenda and the workshops are designed to prevent criminal behaviour.
The first event will be delivered to all year 10 pupils at William Beamont High School on Wednesday March 2. Another will take place at Lysander High School on April 19.
Themed workshops will be delivered by representatives from the road safety team, Cheshire Fire and Rescue, the prison service, Cheshire Police, Highways Agency and magistrates.
One of the organisers said: “Pupils will be escorted as would-be-prisoners throughout the day from one workshop to the next. The idea is for the young people to experience the restriction prison places upon inmates and for them to recognise and appreciate the true value of their own freedom.
“The day has been devised so that young people can investigate how one moment of thoughtfulness can lead to totally changed lives and to help them recognise how important trust and freedom are to building successful lives.”
