WARRINGTON Council’s head of public protection Peter Astley is among those recognised in the New Year honours list.
Peter has awarded the MBE for services to consumers in the north-west.
Commenting on the honour he said: “It’s a real honour being nominated for doing something which I love and feel very passionate about. However, this honour is not just about my work. I feel it demonstrates that Warrington Borough Council has one of the best public protection services in the country. I am proud to receive this award and proud to lead such an excellent service.”
Head of the service responsible for trading standards, environmental health and licensing services, Peter served the people of Warrington by leading the Trading Standards service for many years before taking on his current role.
During all of that time he has strived to protect the most vulnerable in our community helping to provide advice and support to those who need it most. Rogue traders and doorstep criminals are heavily targeted by Pete and his team with strong partnership working with the police and other agencies to make sure Warrington residents are well protected.
Chief Executive of the council, Diana Terris, said: “Pete’s dedication to his job and the fantastic work he does on behalf of the whole community make him an asset to the council and to Warrington. I would like to congratulate him on being awarded the MBE. It is very much deserved.”
Others from Warrington honoured honoured include Monsignor John Devine who received an OBE for services to Inter-faith Relations in the North West.
Meanwhile Martyn Bracegirdle, formerly chairman, Cheshire and Warrington Connexions Partnership received an MBE for services to Young People, while James Joseph O’Connor also received an MBE for services to the community in Warrington, Cheshire.
