WARRINGTON Wolves will not only have four players in the England squad for the upcoming Four Nations tournament Down Under – a number of the club’s off-field staff have also been called up.
Jimmy Lowes, Emma Edwards and John Hartley have all been selected as part of the coaching team for the tour.
Wolves’ chief executive Andy Gatcliffe said: “We, as a club, are delighted for Jimmy, John and Emma to have received this recognition and feel they fully deserve these highly important roles.
“Here at Warrington we recognise the importance of investing in the backroom and coaching staff as well as the players on the field. During the past few years we have made significant steps in establishing a successful coaching and performance team.
Jimmy Lowes, who will act as assistant coach to Steve McNamara, said: “I’m really pleased Steve asked me to rejoin the England set up. The main thing at international level is getting people together and getting them playing together whereas at club level you concentrate more on core skills.
“Steve and I go back a long way. We worked together as assistants within the England set-up to Tony Smith and I’m looking forward to now working under Steve.”
Wolves’s head physiotherapist John Hartley will also be part of the backroom staff for the tour, as will Emma Edwards, who will act as performance analyst. Throughout the tour Emma will supply statistical information to the coaches.
Her role is to improve sports performance through systematic and objective analysis capturing and analysing data before creating feedback for others to work from.
Skipper Adrian Morley, Ben Harrison, Ben Westwood and Ryan Atkins are all part of Steve McNamara’s 24-man squad travelling Down Under.
