Grappers' back to winning ways

GRAPPENHALL were back to winning ways with a massive 138-run victory over Bollington which extended their lead at the top of the Chapel Press Cheshire County League to 15 points,
A century from James McCoy set the tone for Grappenhall’s innings at Bollington which ended with a declaration on 237-8.
McCoy hit 112, Luke McCoy 37 and Alan Brady 28.
Bollington made a bright start but crumbled when skipper Steve Titchard put himself on to bowl and took 5-15. Steve Guest took 3-3 and Dean Riches 2-59.
However, Grappenhall bowed out of the Cheshire Cup when they were comprehensively beaten by Alderley Edge, who batted first and amassed 258.
Grappenhall were all out for 174, James McCoy top scoring with 46 and Richard Green hitting 31.
However, Grappenhall’s main cup interest continues when they play in the third round of the national cup against Eagley at Broad Lane on June 27, starting at 1pm.
Grappenhall 2nd came out on top after a high scoring game against Brooklands at Broad Lane.
Skipper Mike Holden put the visitors in and was rewarded with an early breakthrough. But despite good bowling from Matthew Titchard, 3-33 and Sam Baxter, 2-44, Brooklands built a formidable total of 234-8 wickets in 50 overs.
Grappenhall got off to a bad start but Jack Critchley, 35, skipper Holden, 58, Bradley Angel, 59 and Titchard, 34 not out steered the side home in the last over with four wickets remaining, after a pulsating run chase.
Grappenhall now move up to second place in the hunt for promotion.
Warrington suffered a heavy defeat at Sale where the home team batted first and amassed 257-7 declared. Pick of Warrington’s bowlers were Ryan Swart with 3-44 and Lewis Nunn with 2-57.
In reply, Warrington struggled against accurate bowling and were all out for 123. Thomas Clutterbuck, 32 and Jordan Mitchell, 36, were top scorers.
Warrington 4th enjoyed a fine victory at Urmston where they were able to declared on 208-4 thanks to some fine batting from Derek Bate, 87 not out, Mike Cornelia, 42 and Joe Sequeira, 31.
The home side were dismissed for 156 with Bruce Jardine taking 3-54 and Mansoor Nasseem, Mark Ewing and Abdul Arshad picking up two wickets each.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park chalked up a fine win at Over Peover.
Batting first they declared on 170-9 and then dismissed the home side for 159.
Stretton went down heavily against Alderley Park, being bowled out for a meagre 85 after Alderley had declared on 149-8.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Appleton threw away the chance of victory at Wilmslow Wayfarers after dismissing the home side for a gettable 129, skipper Pete Worrall taking 6-43.
Appleton’s out-of-touch batting line up crumbled with the exception of Anthony Hurst, who hit 57 and the side was all out for 119.
Appleton 2nd suffered a mauling at Capenhurst where they batted first and reached 161-9, thanks to good innings from Eitchy Rashid and Paul Dempster. But the usually tidy bowling attack was put to sword by the home side’s openers and Capenhurst strolled to victory for the loss of just two wickets.
Appleton 3rd earned a draw at Langley after the home side had hammered 221-6. Mike Jones, 3-48 and Ian Webster, 3-22, were the pick of the bowlers. Appleton held out on 160-9.
It was left to Appleton 4th to record a win for the Lyons Lane club – their first of the season – when they entertained Wilmslow Wayfarers and dismissed them for 105, Michael Ormson, Michael Cumberland, Aamir Rashid and Ben Swannell each taking two wickets.
Appleton replied comfortably enough with 106-4, Stuart McIntosh top scoring with 36, Rashid hitting 27 and Matthew Swannell 20.
Rylands took a pasting at Haslington where the home side posted 191-8, Andy Harrison 3-33, Adam Peters 2-48 and Sean Malone 2-60. Rylands replied with 116 all out, Ian Mason hitting 28 and Sam Mulholland 29.
Rylands 2nd raced to a nine wicket win after dimissing Wirral for 106.
Glazebury maintained their title challenge with a seven wicket victory over Kerridge at Hurst Lane.
The visitors were bowled out for a paltry 50, Andrew Calvert 4-13, Christopher Ayre 3-18 and Sam Stanier 2-7. Ian Mason hit 27 as Glazebury coasted to 51-3.
Glazebury 2nd went down by one wicket after a nail-biting finish at The Groves.
Batting first, Glazebury posted 184 with David Acton top scoring with 41, Devesh Shete hitting 29 and Chris Lord 22.
The Wirral side replied with 186-9, Acton taking 3-40 and Dean Lord 2-22.
Women’s cricket
Appleton maintained their 100 per cent record in the Cheshire Women’s League with a seven wicket win at Romily and Dinting.
The match was shortened by the weather and the home side, batting first, found runs hard to get.
They could only muster 63-4 thanks to tight bowling and fielding by Appleton.
When Appleton batted, Amy Page was in good form and hit 29 as the side coasted to 64-3.
