Wizards miss out on top spot

WARRINGTON Wizards suffered a disappointing 36-30 home defeat to Bramley Buffaloes in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National last Saturday evening at Wilderpool Stadium.
The Wizards went into the game knowing that a win would see them reclaim top spot in the league table, but a lacklustre performance where the discipline was poor resulted in them suffering their first home loss of the season.
Try scorers for the Wizards were Matt Taylor 1 and Jono Smith 4. Warren Ayres landed 5 goals from as many attempts.
The Wizards Man of the Match was in-form second row Jono Smith who was well supported by prop forward Matt Clarke and substitute Shaun Gilmour.
After the game Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “We have thrown away the opportunity of going back to the top of the league through our own stupidity. Time and time again we gave silly penalties away and that helped Bramley to get good field position within our own half and they certainly made us pay. We will get things right in training this week and make sure that we control our discipline alot better against the Knights. If we do that then we have a great chance of getting the win.”
Next Saturday sees the Wizards entertain third placed Kippax Knights who lie one point and one place above them in the table. This will be the Knights first ever visit to Wilderspool Stadium, kick off is 3.30pm. Admission is £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
