Wizards suffer first league defeat

WARRINGTON Wizards suffered their first league defeat of the season when they went down 52-32 at Dewsbury Celtic in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National.
The Wizards were very poor from the outset and were trailing 46-10 with only ten minutes remaining but a spirited ending saw them score four quick fire tries to reduce the deficit to just fourteen points and revive hopes of gaining a bonus point but a try and conversion on the final whistle to Dewsbury put paid to that.
Try scorers for the Wizards were: Chris Mellor 1, Alan Reddecliff 2, Jono Smith 2 and Wez Lawton 1. Smith added 4 conversions.
After the game Assistant Coach Mike Grady said, “We never turned up today until it was far too late. Our completion rate was poor and our defence was not upto the standard required. We will need to knuckle down in training this week and make sure that we are ready for a difficult game away at Nottingham Outlaws next Saturday. We were missing three players from last week but that is no excuse, the seventeen we had on duty were more than capable of winning the game if they had shown the right attitude and stuck to the game plan.”
The Wizards travel to Nottingham Outlaws on Saturday. The coach leaves The Village Hotel at 10.00am. If you wish to travel on the team coach then please contact Nikki Whalley on 01925 837829 to secure your place.
